ST. GEORGE PISCATAWAY DANCE INSTRUCTORS

DANCE GROUP PROGRAM 2011-2012

Our Greek-American youth is very fortunate to be involved in a tremendously beneficial cultural program. They receive an education about our age-old Greek folk traditions and folk arts, which far exceeds that of children even in Greece. Through the dedication of time and resources of many Greek dance instructors here in the US, our rich folk culture and heritage is being documented, preserved and passed on to our proud Greek-American youth.

Over the past years Harry and I have gained the knowledge and experience which compel us to instruct Greek dances as we have been a part of many Greek dance groups and have done extensive research at Greek dance conferences.

As your dance instructors, we will be dedicated to this year’s Greek dance program. We will put our best effort forth in researching, choreographing and instructing the best program possible to meet the capabilities of the dancers. We will always begin dance class punctually. In return we will expect that all dancers:

• Be prepared and on the dance floor ready to go when class is supposed to start. We will not be late. You should not be either.

• Be attentive and immediately stop talking when we begin teaching.

• Always respect and maturely accept our programmatic decisions which are final and based on the needs of the entire group.

• Respect our discretion as to if and when water breaks and bathroom breaks will be given upon necessity.

• Remain inside the building for the entire lesson. Do not disappear while practice is taking place.

• Be dedicated to the program. Your attendance is absolutely paramount. Progress can only be made if absences are kept to a minimum.

• Respect each other and be helpful to each other at all times.

• Respect us and any assistant instructor.

• Parents must maintain communication. Establish a phone/e-mail chain. Due to weather and unforeseen events it may be necessary to cancel dance practice. (When in doubt contact the liaison of the group.)

• Take meticulous care of costumes issued. They are very expensive and difficult to replace. Costumes must be maintained, dry cleaned and presentable for performances.

• Respect and appreciate the cultural information and dances presented to you. A tremendous amount of time and money were spent to research them.
